For most of the 1981 season, the Dan Marino led Pittsburgh Panthers were ranked No. 1. In the 1982 Sugar Bowl, they would face the Georgia Bulldogs, the defending champions. Marino would later call this the most memorable pass he’d thrown in his collegiate career.
